Nirvana - In Utero

Tonight I will be reviewing Nirvana's 1993 release "In Utero". The bands third album but their second as a worldwide success. This was another rough and grungy hard hitting release that spoke to the children of the grunge generation one of whom was me. The albums first single was "Heart Shaped Box". This was a song that took you in and kept you there. It really made you try to come up with different interpretations of the song. One of my more favorite tracks was "All Apologies". It was just a more somber Nirvana song which brought out lots of emotion when you heard it. I even used a line from it as part of my yearbook quote senior year. Other great tracks are "Dumb", "Penny Royal Tea", "Scentless Apprentice" and of course the controversial hit "Rape Me". I remember the time this album came out and many things that I was going through in my life. Starting high school was one of them. Playing sports and sucking. This album and many of the songs remind me of an although complicated but simpler time in my life. It reminds me of old friends. Listening to it on my walkman on the way to lacrosse games. I even remember going to the store "The Wall" to buy it at my local mall during Christmas time. A great band, a great time, a great album!!

Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Oz

In 1981, sometime after being booted from Black Sabbath, Ozzy released his first solo album "Blizzard of Oz". I first discovered this album in 1995 while still in high school and I was really into all the great songs on this album. Everyone knows the classic hit "Crazy Train" which is a great song and so much fun to see Ozzy perform live. The album also contains the very controversial song "Suicide Solution" which despite what many critics think is ANTI-suicide and was not the cause of some suicides in the 80's or ever for that matter. Other tracks such as
"I Don't Know", "Good-bye to Romance", "Revelation Mother Earth" and "Mr. Crowly" are all great tracks. This album of course was also the introduction to the world of the late guitarist Randy Rhodes. Randy was a brilliant guitar player and its a shame he was taken so early in life.
Overall I am glad I this album is as good as it is otherwise I may not have been into such an awesome artist as Ozzy himself.

For they know not what they do
Looking back in history's books
It seems it's nothing new
Oh, let my mother live"
