Sublime -Sublime

Today's review is of the self-titled third and ground breaking release from Sublime. In 1996 after the sudden death of lead singer Brad Nowell Sublime hit it big on mainstream rock radio with the single "What I Got". A laid back song about enjoying life and not letting everything i life drive you crazy. The song was an instant success allowing people who never listened to a ska punk band to get into this type of music.
It took me a while to get into Sublime as I had just gotten into this type of music and I guess I dunno I just needed some time. This album is chock full of great songs. There's track #5 "April 29, 1992" which tells the story of the riots that followed the Rodney King verdict in 1992. I personally enjoy "Doin' Time" which is a great summertime anthem. Also songs like "Caress Me Down", "Seed","The Wrong Way" and "Santeria" became huge hits in 1997. Other tracks that I enjoy are "Pawn Shop", "Garden Grove", "Same in the End","Under My Voodoo" and "Jailhouse". On this album as their other records Sublime shows a wide range of influences from Bob Marley Reggae to the bluesy classic rock guitar licks of Jimi Hendrix. Just great music plain and simple.
This is one of those albums that everyone and their mother even if they don't own it they at least know one or two songs.
Album Quote:
"Life is too short so love the one ya got cuz ya might get run over or ya might get shot."
